Matt Adamkiewicz was busy man on Friday night.
Christopher’s junior QB was at the helm for five touchdowns in the team’s 41-2 win at Alisal.
Adamkiewicz connected with Anthony Sammut for two TDs in the game. The first was for 59 yards with just two minutes left in the first to put the Cougars up 13-0. Adamkiewicz found Sammut again for 68 yards to put Christopher up 27-0 with midway through the second quarter.
Adamkiewicz finished the night 14 for 31 with 312 yards, four touchdowns and an interception in the air in addition to two carries for 77 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Sammut had three catches for 131 yards and two touchdowns.Â
Pierleoni said he wanted to utilize the run game this week and his team delivered. The Cougars scored twice off rushing touchdowns—a 73-yard keeper by Adamkiewicz to put them up 20-0 early in the second and a 17-yard rush by Raul Tovar late for the final score.
Bryant Huynh was stellar on defense, pulling down two intereceptions in the game. He almost had a third, but it was called back.
Huynh also caught a 74-yard touchdown pass from Adamkiewicz to put Christopher up 34-2 with under nine to play in the fourth.
Jacob Moen got the Cougars on the board with 8:13 left in the first, connecting with Adamkiewicz for a 15-yard pass. The extra point was missed, however, and Christopher took a 6-0 lead.
Moen also had 15 tackles, a forced fumble, fumble recovery and two pass breakups in the game.Â
The third quarter wound up taking 40 minutes, only two see two points scored. The Pirates only points came when Adamkiewicz landed on a ball for the safety in the endzone with under two to play in the quarter. The score cut the Cougars’ lead to 27-2.
Christopher (6-1 overall, 3-0 in the Monterey Bay League-Pacific Division) will play Pajaro Valley at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at Watsonville High.Â
Monte Vista Christian 27, Gilroy 13
Week 8 was a battle of the Mustangs and only one could come out on top. Unfortunately for the Gilroy Mustangs, it just wasn’t their night.
Gilroy lost its second straight game, 27-13, to Monte Vista Christian Friday in Watsonville.
Patrick Hsu connected with Riley Filice Hollar on a 35-yard trickery pass to pull within a score at 21-13 late in the game. Monte Vista Christian took the momentum right back, reaching the endzone quickly for the final score.
Filice Hollar led the team with eight receptions for 78 yards and two touchdowns. QB David Munoz was 11 for 75 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions.Â
The Mustangs did a good job of limiting their penalties, drawing only three which cost them 30 yards.
Gilroy only trailed by seven, 14-7, at the half.
The Mustang (2-6 overall, 2-2 in Monterey Bay League Pacific Division) will take their bye next week. They will be back in action at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 7 to take on Pajaro Valley at Watsonville High School.Â
