Christopher's Alex Granados tees off at hole two Tuesday during the match against Gilroy at the Gavilan Golf Course.

Christopher’s Kylie Kuwada was playing in the No. 1 spot for her team Tuesday and she proved she deserved to do so.
Kuwada was the medalist of the Cougars match against Gilroy at Gavilan Golf Course. She shot at 46 on the par 31 course and birdied on Hole 1 to lead her team to a 278-384 win over the Mustangs.
“I felt like I played well,” Kuwada said. “It was fun, it felt cool to be on the top.”
Gilroy was down to just one player, LaTherian Harrison, due to Cierra Montoya-Valdez being sidelined with appendicitis for the foreseeable future. Harrison shot a 60 on the day, a four stroke improvement over her recent outing against Monte Vista Christian.
“I think I did good,” Harrison said. “At first I started out rough, but once I got into the game I think I ended well.”
Christopher also saw a strong showing from its No. 2 golfer Alex Granados, a transfer student from New Mexico. It was her first time playing against her crosstown counterparts, an experience she’d love to repeat.
“For it being the first time it was pretty intimidating,” Granados said. “I was a little nervous, but after the first couple holes they started talking and I became more relaxed. It was more like friends playing golf.”
Tuesday’s victory improves Christopher to 3-0 on the season, an improvement over last year’s 2-1 start.
CHS coach Manuel Gallardo said he was pleased by his team’s outing and that it was a representation that the Cougars are correcting their prior mistakes. With the season in full swing, he said it’s a positive sign of things to come.
“They’ve been playing really well lately, so I think they’re just carrying that momentum from the last few matches,” he said. “It’s clearly starting to show that everything is starting to click right at the right time.”
