Andres Jimenez and Alejandro Flores proved to be double trouble for Yerba Buena in the Gilroy boys soccer season opener.
Flores scored four times and picked up two assists, while Jimenez had a hat trick and two assists in the Mustangs’ 7-0 win at home Monday.Â
Jimenez was the first to draw blood, scoring off an assist from Gaspar Figueroa. A Jimenez to Flores goal followed by a Flores to Jimenez goal helped improve the Mustangs to a 3-0 lead.Â
Flores would score once more in the first half off an assist from Emmanuel Cruz to give Gilroy a 4-0 lead at the half.
Jordan Juarez assisted Flores on the first goal of the second half for Gilroy. It was then a Flores to Jimenez, Jimenez to Flores scoring pair for the team’s last two goals of the match.
Gilroy will be back in action at 5:45 p.m. today to host Bellarmine.Â
Cougars fall in openerÂ
It wasn’t the start Christopher was hoping for.Â
The Cougars fell 5-1 to Valley Christian High School Tuesday in San Jose in the team’s season opener.Â
Melvin Valiente scored the team’s lone goal and was assisted by Alejandro Robles.Â
“(This) game really helped us see where weaknesses are in back line and midfield,” Cougars coach Ricardo Espinosa said.Â
Christopher will play its home opener at 3:30 p.m. today against St. Francis Central Coast Catholic High School.Â

Christopher dominates Carmel in season opener
Paulina Llamas certainly showed why she was last season’s Offensive Player of the Year.
Llamas picked up a hat trick in Christopher’s 7-0 win over Carmel Tuesday in the team’s season opener.
“We dominated the whole game,” CHS coach Chip Beardsley said.
Sophomore Jamie Boutee had a goal and three assists for the Cougars. Vanessa Koontz, Natalie Filippi and Gina Rodriguez each had a goal in the game.Â
Christopher will be back in action at 11 a.m. Saturday, taking on Capuchino at the Burlingame Tournament.Â

Christopher beat Soledad in season opener
It was Dillon Day all day for the Christopher boys basketball team.
Day led the Cougars with 22 points in their season opening 55-49 win at Soledad Monday.Â
