Gilroy Mustangs

Christopher and San Benito took things to the mat Wednesday and the Cougars claimed a 44-30 win over their neighbors to the south. 
Riley Siason (106), Mario Achando (132), Jacob Myers (160) and Ray Tapia (182) all won their matches by pin for Christopher.
Deen Agustin (113), Kioni Calimpong (120), Adam Mena (152) and Anthony Gomez (195) all notched wins over their Baler counterparts. Mena won by major decision, 19-5, while Agustin won 9-2. Gomez recorded an 8-4 decision and Calimpong had the closes match, but still won 8-6. 
Christopher’s standout Alex Garcia, 170, won his match by forfeit. 
Ethan Crawford (138), Andre Shelby (145) and Collin Orknowo (220) all lost by pin. The Cougars forfeited the 126-pound and heavyweight bouts.
Christopher will compete in the CCS Girls Champions, the Mission San Jose “A” and El Camino “B” tournaments, all of which start today.
BOYS SOCCER
Palma blanks Cougars
Palma handed Christopher a 1-0 loss Thursday at home.
Neither team was able to edge the other until Chieftains’ Miguel Melendez scored the lone goal in the 72nd minute off a penalty shot. 
Christopher (4-7-3 overall, 3-3-3 in league) will play its third to last game of the season at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Monterey. 
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Mustangs fall to MVC
Monte Vista Christian topped Gilroy 52-23 Thursday at home for the Mustangs’ 11th straight loss.
Stats from this game were not yet available. 
Gilroy (7-14 overall, 0-9 in league) will play at North Salinas at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
