Gilroy’s Monica Ruelas finished second in the Monterey Bay League Pacific Center Meet No. 3 at Pinto Lake, but not by much. The junior Mustang finished just 10 seconds behind the first place finisher, Leslie Oseguera of Monterey, to complete the course in 20:48.91
Jose-Tony Barradas of Gilroy took the highest spot for the boys, finishing sixth in a time of 17:40.56. Christopher’s Alejandro Diaz wasn’t far behind and claimed ninth place in 17:49.43. Mustang runners Jesus Sanchez, Ruben Perez, Braulio Campos and Eric Heiser took 11th, 15th, 16th and 17th, respectively. Jonathan Viveros rounded out the Top 20, taking 19th in a time of 18:39.24.
Christopher’s Natalie Fillippi claimed ninth place in the girls race and finished in 21:57.72. Karla Lozano from Gilroy and Cougar runner Daisy Pineda finished 15 and 16, respectively. Marissa Galvan, a Mustang freshman, took 19th place.
Christopher and Gilroy will race in the Monterey Bay League Championships at 8 a.m. Oct. 31 at Toro Park.

Mustangs cruise past Spirits
Gilroy High’s seniors shined on Senior Night and aided their team to a 6-1 win over the visiting Norte Dame-Salinas Monday.

The Mustangs’ honored their four departing seniors—Ang Hays, Andrea Lopez, Ellie Sausen, and Ileana Garcia—with flowers, on field recognition and a post-game ceremony.
Gilroy also took on Davis Senior on Saturday and tied 1-1.
Gilroy (11-3-3 overall, 6-1 in league) will host San Benito at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday at Christopher High.

Cougars top Cowboys, fall to Vikings
Christopher blanked Salinas 6-0 Saturday on the road but were bested 4-1 by the visiting North Salinas Tuesday.
The Cougars’ lone goal against the Vikings came in late in the second half. Stats from both games weren’t immediately available.
Christopher (8-4 overall, 5-3 in league) will play San Benito at 3:30 p.m. Friday.
VOLLEYBALL
Cougars swept by Cowboys
Christopher lost 3-0 to Salinas Tuesday on the road. The Cowboys beat the Cougars 25-18, 25-23, 25-11.

Christopher (15-8 overall, 5-4 in league) will be back on the court at 6:30 p.m. tonight at Monterey.
GIRLS GOLF
PG bests Gilroy
Gilroy notched its best team score of the season, but fell just short to Pacific Grove 263-196 at Gavilan Golf Course Tuesday.
Lizette Alcantar led the Mustangs with a 46 and Nicole Dan hit a 47.
The team’s lone senior Judith Diaz was honored on Senior Day and scored a 57. Alessandra Esposito also carded a 57. Cassidy Gilmore notched a 56.
The team will play in the Monterey Bay League Championships Monday.
