After being beat 20-8 last month by Harbor, the Cougars returned the favor.
The Christopher girls water polo team topped the Pirates 8-6 at Aptos behind a stellar performance from Nicole Andresen in net. She blocked 16 shots—about 73 percent—after taking over the position just a few games ago.
“Nicole has never played water polo before and when we found ourselves without a goalie, she stepped up and said ‘I’ll do what it takes coach.’ What refreshing athlete she is,” Cougar coach Jim Shuster said via email.
Christopher took a 5-0 lead into half and saw Harbor make changes in the offense—but so did CHS. Emma Seery scored the winning goal off a powerful back shot.
Malaya Santos led the Cougars with three goals and Natalie Garcia added two. Ashley Irby and Hanna Marquez also scored one a piece.
Irby also had three assists—and leads the league with 49—and four steals.
The Cougars (7-8 overall, 4-3 in league) will host Gilroy at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Cougars best Notre Dame
Christopher overcame the heat and lineup changes to come away with a 5-2 win over Notre Dame Thursday at home.
No. 1 singles player Adena Chen was feeling under the weather, but paired up with Kelly Nantais to form the No. 1 doubles team. The pair played flawlessly despite it being their first time playing together in competition and came away with a 6-3, 6-2 win.
Tiffany Roberts filled in the No. 1 spot and topped Notre Dame’s Kate Chilton  6-4, 7-5. Jade Bardrick, the No. 2, and Kaitlyn Lombardo, the No. 3, also picked up wins to give the Cougars three singles wins. Liz Levan, the No. 4 singles, lost her first set 6-2, but won the second 7-6 to force a tiebreaker. Both Levan and her ND opponent engaged in back and forth battle, but the Spirits came out on top with an 11-9 win.
Sydney Tran and Malia Campos, the No. 2 doubles team, dropped their first set 2-6, but rebounded with a 6-2 win to force the tiebreaker which they won 10-7.
The No.3 team of Annemarie Hayes and Minna Wu lost their first set, 3-6, and fought back in the second to win 7-6, but lost in the tiebreaker 5-7.
Christopher will be back in action at 4 p.m. Tuesday at North Salinas.
