Gilroy Mustangs
It all came down to three points.
 
The Christopher girls golf team upset Robert Louis Stevenson 287-290 at Spyglass Hill Golf Course in Pebble Beach Tuesday.
 
The Cougars improve to a 7-1 record with the win.
 
Nina Velez led Christopher, shooting a 51 and birding on Hole 3. Natalie Gutierrez and Alex Granados were close behind, both shooting a 54. 
 
Christopher will take on the undefeated Santa Catalina at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at home. 
 
Montoya-Valdez returns for the Mustangs
 
After being sidelined with appendicitis in early September, Cierra Montoya-Valdez was final able to get back on the greens for Gilroy Tuesday against Salinas at Gavilan Golf Course. 
Montoya-Valdez scored a 74 as she was limited to just putting with one putt coming on Hole 7. 

LaTherian Harrison scored a 55 against Salinas, the fourth lowest score of the day.

The Mustangs will be back in action at 3 p.m. Thursday at Pacific Grove.

TENNIS

Christopher falls to Notre Dame
 
The Christopher girls tennis team lost 2-5 Tuesday at Notre Dame.
 
The Cougars (2-2) were able to pick up wins in the No. 1 and 3 singles matches, but fell short in all the rest. 
 
No. 1 Emily Barham won her match in come from behind fashion 3-6, 6-1, 10-4. No. 3 singles play Liz Levan won 6-3, 7-6.
 
Christopher will be back on the court at 4 p.m. Thursday to host North Salinas. 
 
MVC tops Gilroy
 
The Gilroy girls tennis team fell 2-5 to Monte Vista Christian at home Tuesday.
 
The lone Mustangs’ wins came from the No. 1 and 2 doubles teams. The No. 1 team of Caitlin Filice-Hollar and Nicole Holder won their match 6-4, 6-2 while the No. 2 team — made of Mya Esquivel and Victoria Rodriguez — won their match in three sets 7-6, 6-7, 10-4. 
 
Gilroy (0-5) will host Pajaro Valley at 4 p.m. Thursday.
 
VOLLEYBALL
 
Mustangs beat Pajaro Valley
 
Sarah Weiby was redhot for the Gilroy Mustangs Tuesday, helping them to a 3-1 win over Pajaro Valley on the road.
 
Weiby led the Mustangs with 16 kills in the game, helping them win 25-20, 19-25, 25-23, 25-22.
 
Leilani Mah added nine kills for the Mustangs in the game. Clarissa Quezada and Gabby Martinez added stellar defensive passing for Gilroy. 
 
“We had various hitters getting hot at different times permitting Nicole Green to mix up our offensive attack,” Gilroy coach Elaine Price said. “This match was the first time we had more than one hot hitter, as a matter of fact, we had multiple hitters manufacturing points throughout the match.”
 
The JV team lost to Pajaro Valley in two games 16-25 and 13 -25. Evelyn Clonts had 3 kills and a block in the game. 
 
The Mustangs will play at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Alisal. 
 

Notre Dame tops CHS
 
The Christopher volleyball team lost its game 0-3 at Notre Dame Tuesday.
 
The Cougars lost 25-19, 25-13, 25-16 to drop to 7-6 on the season, 2-4 in league. 
 
Oliva Tabron led the scoring with eight kills for CHS, while Cheyanne Dela Merced had 10 digs and 18 assists. 
 
Christopher will host Watsonville at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.
