Christopher recorded its third straight sweep, edging Mt. Madonna 25-23, 25-22, 28-26 Thursday in Watsonville.
Samantha Dolan led the offense with 12 kills in the game. Katelyn Viray tallied 10 against Mt. Madonna, as well as 19 digs. Marielle Gomez also had 19 digs in the game.
Christa Arroyo brought it all together with 33 assists on top of had 11 digs and four kills.
Christopher (7-2) will take on the Acorns at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Live Oak.
GIRLS WATER POLO
Cougars drop two to Aptos
Aptos beat Christopher not once, but twice last week.
The Mariners handed the Cougars their first loss of the season, beating them 11-2 Thursday at Christopher High. Aptos faced Christopher again in the Carmel Varsity Tournament Saturday, and won 11-5.
On Thursday, both teams were scoreless after the first quarter. Aptos then scored three of its 11 goals in the second. Christopher answered with its two goals of the game in the same quarter, but were unable to score after halftime.
Aptos took a 6-2 lead into halftime on Saturday at the tournament. The Mariners scored five goals in the third to Christopher’s one, but were held scoreless in the final frame. The Cougars, on the other hand, notched two goals in the fourth.
Other results from the tournament were not yet available.
Christopher will be back in the water at 4 p.m. Tuesday to play Hollister.
Eagles top Gilroy
The Mustangs dropped their third straight game, falling 12-7 to Everett Alvarez Thursday on the road.
Gilroy scored two goals in the first, second and third quarters to trail the Eagles by three, 9-6 after three. Alvarez sealed the win in fourth, outscoring the Mustangs 3-1.
Gilroy (0-3) will play San Lorenzo Valley at 4 p.m. Tuesday.
