Caltrain has scheduled several community meetings to discuss suspending the Gilroy service along with other proposals including suspending weekend services and increasing fares and parking fees.
The agency lost $10 million in state funding since 2008 – 40 percent of the agency’s revenue – and it faced a 15 percent slide in ridership since 2009.
The changes would go into effect between October and January 2011.
The Caltrain board of directors is holding a public hearing Sept. 2 on the proposed changes and reductions at 10 a.m. at the Caltrain Administrative Office, 1250 San Carlos Ave. in San Carlos.

Also on the chopping block is early morning, midday and late evening service, staffed ticket offices, and increases to the Go Pass company program from $140 to $155 per rider and one-way base or zone fares by 25 cents.
