Longtime rapper ‘Too Short’ is scheduled to take part in a show
planned for April 22 at the Veterans Memorial Building in
Hollister. The concert still awaits approval from City Manager
Clint Quilter and Police Chief Jeff Miller.
For almost 46 years, Hollister resident Rick Villegas has complained there aren’t enough things to do for kids in San Benito County. And he passed on those thoughts to his 19-year-old son, who as always wanted to bring entertainment to the county and Hollister.

If everything goes right, they might both get their wish.

The two, along with San Jose resident Josh Dahl, have scheduled the debut “TruBeatz Entertainment” concert.

The show’s bill includes 20-plus year hip-hop staple and nationally famous “Too Short.”

The concert, tentatively scheduled for April 22, a Friday, at the Veterans Memorial Building, still awaits approval from City Manager Clint Quilter and Police Chief Jeff Miller. The three promoters applied to host the show at the Veterans Memorial Building in March.

Quilter said he had not yet reviewed the document, and Miller could not be reached.

City Clerk Geri Johnson said the application is going through the permitting process.

The show will include local hip-hop artists, a local band and a dance group from San Benito High School, the elder Villegas said.

A portion of the proceeds will also be donated to Emmaus House.

Too Short’s long music career has included one double-platinum album, five platinum albums and three gold albums. The artist’s real name is Todd Shaw, and his nicknames include “Short Dog” and “Short Dizzle.”

“We wanted to make this a community event that is open to everyone,” Villegas said.

Dahl expressed interest in including the high school in as many of the festivities as possible, he said.

“We are trying to get the high school involved as much as possible,” Dahl said. “We want to have local people involved.”

They have not been in contact with the high school about the event, said Krystal Lomanto, San Benito High School principal.

The event will be open for all ages, and no alcohol will be sold. The promoters will also hire a city-approved security team and additional security guards if the city permits them to do so, Dahl said.
