Gilroy – Denise Lopez will Hoola Hoop for 30 minutes using a five pound hoop for an event benefiting St. Jude Research Hospital in November. All she needs now are people who are willing to pledge money.

This fundraiser, dubbed A Workout for St. Jude, will be held at Slender Lady of Gilroy, a gym for women on Forest Avenue. St. Jude Research Hospital is dedicated to finding cures for children with cancer, AIDS, and Sickle Cell Anemia. It is based in Memphis, Tenn., and freely shares its discoveries with scientific and medical communities around the world.

Cindy Seamons, event coordinator and owner of the Slender Lady of Gilroy, pulled together an eight-member committee to help with the planning of this event.

“I feel very blessed to be part of this event because I’ve lost very close family members particularly to cancer, and I work with women everyday who have family members that are going through this. Part of this is to support them.”

Seamons understands the work involved with planning a fundraiser, so the committee has contributed with many ideas. Like Lopez, Cindy Hayes is a member of the committee for the event.

“Everybody was really excited during our first meeting, and there were many, many ideas,” Hayes said. “It was more a matter of which to go with.”

The event will include a Hoola Hoop marathon, regular workouts, raffles, and other events.

“Were excited about doing it, anything we can do to promote that will be well worth it,” said Sondra Banks a committee member.

The next committee meeting is 6pm Thursday at the Slender Lady gym.
