The Silicon Valley Hawks prepped for the Men’s Spring Basketball League playoffs by upending regular-season champion Tony’s Cronies 59-51 in overtime Wednesday at Solorsano Gymnasium.

The Hawks completed the 10-game season with a 5-5 mark, good for the second seed. The Hawks will face third-seed Recology on Wed. May 16 at 8pm at Solorsano Gym. Tony’s Cronies, 8-2 after a second consecutive loss, will play the fourth-seed Spartans on May 16 at 7pm. The title game will be on May 23.

Shawn Aguilar and Drew Pearson each scored five points during the three-minute overtime as the Hawks took control after the 45-45 deadlock at the end of regulation. Pearson topped the Hawks with 19 points. Aguilar popped in 14 points, Hans Mendezona 10 for the winners.

Saleem Vakili produced 23 points for the 8-2 Cronies. Gabe Honesto helped with nine points.

Recology turned back the Spartans 73-46 to earn the third seed.

Brad Pluckhan converted six three-point field goals to account for 24 points for Recology. Carlos Hernandez followed with 16 points, Donny Gooding 11 and Mike Vanni 10.

Chris Dean anchored the Spartan offense with 15 points. Gavin Menges made three 3-pointers on the way to 13 points for the Spartans.
