Hard Ninety earned a half-game lead in the Men’s Spring Basketball League race for first place Monday at Solorsano Gymnasium with a 52-44 victory over AYOOO.
Frankie Tomasetti scored 17 points as Hard Ninety reached 6-1 in league play, moving past 5-1 PB4L.
J.T. Tipton scored all 11 of his points in the second half as Hard Ninety expanded its 27-24 halftime lead. Mark Cisneros helped with nine points. Davontea Johnson scored 18 points for AYOOO (2-5). Billy Heard followed with nine points.
Dallas Jensen scored five points in overtime as Stubby’s Bar & Grill’s 50 Shades of Bay Tree outlasted the Shredders, 66-64.
The win allowed Stubby’s to reach 4-2 in third place. The top four teams in the nine-team league make the postseason.
Kameron Handy anchored the Shades with 20 points. Brian Booth scored 12 points, Derek Jensen 10 for the winners. Jensen scored 10 of his 13 points after halftime.
Saleem Vakili scored 23 points to pace the Shredders (3-3). Tony Shebib hit two 3-pointers on his way to 12 points for the Shredders. LaMont Chappell scored 10 points, including three in overtime.
Recology kept its playoff hopes alive with a 54-48 upset of District 5. Tony Travis and Dolapo Opere each made five 3-pointers for Recology (4-4). Travis finished with 22 points, Opere 20. Donny Gooding came up with eight points for Recology.
Justin Nicholson led the District 5 charge with a 25-point performance. District 5 (4-3) is fourth, Regology fifth in league play.
