Rec teams slug it out at annual Fourth of July Tournament
GILROY – Fourteen teams in two divisions wowed fans at both Christmas Hill Park and Las Animas Park, participating in the 38th Annual Co-Rec Fourth of July Tournament on Saturday and Sunday.

Eight squads battled it out in the C Division while six teams went at it in the B Division, all vying for the title in the name of recreational glory.

Just Roll One marched to a 4-0 record in the C Division Sunday, capturing the tournament championship with a 13-2 nod over Liquid Playground in the finals at Las Animas Park.

Just Roll One’s toughest test came on Sunday morning, the second day of the double-elimination event.

Team Rush powered to a 13-4 lead over Just Roll One midway through the fifth inning. But, after Angelica Garcia’s RBI-single gave the Rollers one run in the fifth, she added another RBI-single as Just Roll One erupted for 10 runs in the sixth inning to take a 15-13 lead.

David Valencia homered, and Andrea Garcia and Corey Casillas ripped triples in the comeback. All 10 runs were scored with two outs.

Just Roll One opened the tournament with a 6-1 victory over Blackout Window Tinting, paced by home runs from Marc Vega and Monica Pantoja.

The Rollers reached the final with an 11-1 win over the Liquid Playground, capped by Jose Gamboa’s three-run homer.

Playground earned second place honors. Batters Up placed third with a 3-2 mark. Ur Face took fourth with a 1-2 record.

NorCal Most Wanted claimed the B Division title with four victories, highlighted by an 11-4 win over the Hustlers in the finals of the six-team event at Christmas Hill Park on Saturday.

The Hustlers produced three consecutive wins in the loser’s bracket to gain the finals and earn second-place.

SMC went 2-2 to finish third while DC went 1-2 in fourth place.

Highlights of last week’s Rec action

The Borrachos took a one-half game lead in the Men’s EE Softball standings Thursday with a 24-3 win over St. Mary Men’s Club at Christmas Hill.

Armando Uribe and John Gonzalez each homered in a six-run third for the 4-1 Borrachos.

Jeff Davis went 3-for-4 for St. Mary Men’s Club.

The Regulators are one-half game off the pace at 3-1-1 after a 13-13 tie with the Good Ole Boys. The Regulators and Good Ole Boys will replay that game at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday at Las Animas Park.

Kenny Hopf went 3-for-4 for the Regulators. Brian Rudolfs drove in eight Good Ole Boy runs with a homer, two triples and a single.

VFW Bingo kept title hope alive with a 4-3 edging of ACP.

Dustin Robinson doubled and scored on an error in the bottom of the seventh to handle VFW Bingo the win.

Weapons of Mass Seduction left the Men’s E League with a five-team tie for first place with a 17-13 upset of the Titans Thursday at Las Animas.

The Weapons struck for six runs on eight singles in the final inning to improve to 3-2.

Ben Hemeon and Eric Nelson hit Seduction homers. Jim Reimer went 4-for-4 for the 3-2 Titans.

Walton & Sons Masonry moved to 3-2 with an 18-7 decision over No Soup 4 You.

Willie Maquinalez went 4-for-4 and Jake Wischmann homered for Walton & Sons. Joaquin Chacon homered for the Soup.

Trevino Brothers Construction outlasted New Hope Community Church 17-14 to leave both clubs at 3-2.

Colin Kelly and Mark Guajardo each went 4-for-4 for Trevino Brothers. James Isaksen lined a three-run homer.

Matt Elam homered for New Hope.
