Is there a plan to repave Luchessa Avenue between Monterey Road
and Thomas Road? It is literally crumbling.

Red Phone: Dear Pave Me, There are a couple options for repaving the street but unfortunately they may be a year or more away, said Gilroy Traffic Engineer Don Dey.
The city works with the county on an annual chip seal program that targets streets in a specific area. Because of budget cutbacks, the program was not done this year. Last year, work was done in the northern section.
“We choose a logical area of the city and try to improve as many poor roads as possible,” Dey said. The program could be implemented next spring or summer, but no time frame has been set yet, he said.
If a road falls below a certain level of structural strength and needs to be resurfaced the city would need to secure a grant, Dey said. But this option can be expensive.
The city is also considering working with a developer in the area to get the roads improved as part of a possible housing project. But this could also be a year or two away, Dey said.
Why are vehicles cited?
“Why are more and more vehicles being cited for parking violations in residential areas throughout the city? Is this a way for the city to raise money?”
Red Phone: Dear Ticket Master, You’re not the only one who has been concerned about an apparent increase in ticketing. Red Phone has received several calls from people with the same concern, and others have voiced their concern to the city. But police say they are not just trying to make an extra buck. “The whole financial part of ticketing doesn’t play into why we write them,” said Sgt. West Stanford. “We’re trying to change behavior.”
Even so, it doesn’t hurt to brush up on the rules to make sure you aren’t inadvertently breaking a rule that may or may not have been enforced previously.
