Gilroy – The Giants and Red Sox ended the Gilroy Little League Minor Division playoffs Tuesday evening winning the National League and American League titles.

The Giants finished their season undefeated defeating the Nationals 7-3, but it wasn’t easy.

The game featured a lead by both teams and two ties, but the Giants pulled away with a big fifth inning.

The Nationals jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the top of the first, but the Giants responded and the game was tight until the bottom of the fifth, when the Giants came alive scoring four runs to put the game away.

“It was kind of stressful because I didn’t want the kids to go all season without a loss and then lose it in the end,” Giants manager Brent Drysdale said. “It paid off for the kids.”

The Red Sox won the American League title by jumping out to an early lead and never relinquishing it, defeating the Angels 8-5.

Red Sox manager Vic Vanni gave credit to his opponents pitching, which he said was the best in the league. The Angels had only lost two games all season coming into the game, both to the Red Sox.

However, Angels manager Chris Wheat said, “All credit goes to the Red Sox, they’re a well coached, well disciplined baseball team.”
