Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Weds, May 14th, 2014, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M., at Habing Family Funeral Home in Gilroy. Funeral service to be held Thurs May 15th, 2014, at 10:00 A.M., at St. Catherine’s Church in Morgan Hill and military funeral honors to follow at St. Mary’s cemetery, Gilroy. A celebration of life will be held at Fortino’s Winery in Gilroy immediately following graveside services.
Reginald (“Reggie”) Luis Bravo of San Martin passed away on May 1, 2014, at home surrounded by his family. Reggie was born in Lemoore, CA, January 19, 1925, one of nine children. Reggie served his country in the military police of the U.S. Army/Air Corp during World War II.
Shortly after discharge from the service, Reggie returned to Santa Clara County where he met Lois, his beloved wife of 65 years.
Reggie began his career as a business agent for the International Brotherhood of Teamsters, and continued in that work for over 30 years, and then joined the Federal Mediation & Conciliation Service (FMCS), where he enjoyed 22 years of service.
One of the many highlights of Reggie’s long career was successfully negotiating an agreement on behalf of CA Highway Patrol Officers that greatly improved the lives and working conditions of many members of law enforcement throughout the state, and ultimately resulted in the creation of the CA Association of Highway Patrol.
Reggie also greatly enjoyed his career as a Commissioner of the FMCS where he mediated disputes involving the Americans with Disabilities Act. After retiring, Reggie remained active throughout the community and started a tractor service where he made many lifetime friends.
Reggie never met a stranger, had a zest for life, and made instant friends wherever he went. Reggie loved his family and friends and never missed an opportunity to be with them, whether it be to the movies, across the country, or just breakfast with his buddies. Reggie would jump in the car or on a plane at the drop of a hat just to spend time with his family or friends. Reggie was a very giving and generous man, and one of his favorite things was to grow fresh vegetables in his garden only to give them away.
Reggie is survived by his beloved wife Lois of 65 years, two sons Reg and Rick, brother Tony, daughter-in-law Robin, son-in-law Paul, three grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
