Gilroy – Authorities said they have identified the remains found off of Highway 152 just west of Gilroy as an African-American man from Stockton. The incident is being investigated as a homicide.

Investigators identified the man as Walter Wade White, 50, Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Deputy Serg Palanov said. Although White’s remains were discovered almost two weeks ago on Friday July 28, Palanov said the delay in the release of his identity was due to difficulty finding White’s next of kin.

Palanov said he would not release basic details about the condition of White’s body due to the ongoing homicide investigation.

Police said loggers working in the hills off of Hecker Pass Highway flagged down a Santa Clara County Sheriff deputy Friday July 28, and reported a possible dead body between the Sprig Lake turnout and Mount Madonna County Park.

Palanov said police are asking anyone in the South County area with information about the incident or White to contact the Sheriff’s Office Investigations at 808-4500 or the anonymous tip line at 808-4431.
