• Celebrate the lives of those who fought for our freedom at
Gilroy’s seventh annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday.
Memorial Day activities kick off at 9 a.m. at St. Mary Cemetery,
900 First St., where Supervisor Don Gage and Mayor Al Pinheiro will
speak. Wayne Cegelske, VFW Post Commander, will lead an
invocation.
Gilroy

• Celebrate the lives of those who fought for our freedom at Gilroy’s seventh annual Memorial Day Parade on Monday.

Memorial Day activities kick off at 9 a.m. at St. Mary Cemetery, 900 First St., where Supervisor Don Gage and Mayor Al Pinheiro will speak. Wayne Cegelske, VFW Post Commander, will lead an invocation.

At 11 a.m., the parade will begin along Tenth Street. The CALSTAR helicopter and P-51 Mustangs will fly over, then local veterans, the Gilroy High School Marching Band, floats, custom cars, street rods, the San Jose Sharks fire engine, Gilroy Fire and Police equipment and marchers from many of Gilroy’s organizations will parade down Tenth Street.

Jenny Belcher is this year’s Grand Marshal, the first female to be so honored.

After the parade, attend the ‘Family Fun Day’ at Christmas Hill Park, featuring a rock-climbing wall, bounce houses, clowns and a balloon artist. Custom cars will be displayed, as well as the CALSTAR helicopter, depending on its availability.

•The National World War II Memorial will be dedicated Saturday in Washington, D.C. National Veterans organizations have requested that local veterans organizations pay tribute in their own cities. The Local American Legion Posts 669 and 217 along with the Veterans of Foreign Wars 6309 are participating in the memorial dedication at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Building, 74 W. Sixth St.

Gilroy’s Company B 184th Infantry, which left Gilroy on March 3, 1942, will be honored. All WW II veterans are encouraged to attend and be recognized. Reservations are required, and no tickets will be available at the door. Mayor Al Pinheiro and Supervisor Don Gage will greet everyone. Lunch will be served for $11. Morgan Hill

• The Morgan Hill Veterans Memorial will be held in downtown at Monterey Road and First Street on Monday at 9 a.m. Shadow Mountain school children will sing songs, flags will be raised, and Kelly Higgins will read the names of the war dead. Two wreaths will also be laid, and a Shadow Mountain minister will lead a prayer.

• Adult and children’s choirs from Morgan Hill Bible Church will hold a Memorial Day Concert, “An American Salute.” The concert will feature songs, stories, the Marine Color Guard and details on helping the troops will be available. The concert will take place at 7:30 p.m. Sunday and is free to all. Morgan Hill Playhouse, 17000 Monterey Road.

• A short Memorial Day service will be held at the cemetery on Spring Avenue on Monday at 11 a.m., following the 9 a.m. ceremony downtown at Veterans Memorial.
