Gilroy – Sprinklers doused a bedroom fire at South County Retirement Home, located at 460 Church St. in San Martin, early Monday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived shortly after noon and searched the building. All 40 of the building’s residents were evacuated, said Divine Pangyarihan, the facility’s medical records secretary.

After firefighters finished clearing the building, staff allowed residents back in, only to hear the alarm go off again.

Firefighters could not locate the cause of the alarm, but checked the area again before residents filed back in. Pangyarihan said staff didn’t know what caused the fire, which is under investigation.

Gilroy High School Choir Concert

Gilroy – Gilroy High School Choir Spring Concerts will be held at 7:30pm Wednesday at the school’s cafeteria, and at 7:30pm Thursday at the mission in nearby San Juan Bautista.

Tickets are $3 at the door.
