Richard S. “Dick” Harrison died Jan, 24, 2005 in Davis.
He was a good, decent and respected man.
Born in San Francisco on Nov. 25, 1929, Mr. Harrison graduated from University of California, Berkeley’s Boalt Hall Law School. He served in the U.S. Army and practiced law in San Jose where he met and married Joan.
He began his practice of law in Gilroy in 1965. Together with his wife, they created the Harrison & Harrison practice, a fixture in Gilroy for more than 35 years.
Mr. Harrison was involved in many community affairs, including the boards of GUSD school building corporation, the Gilroy Chamber of Commerce, Rotary, Boy Scouts, and Campfire Girls. He was a member of the Gilroy Planning Commission, volunteered for the Salvation Army, and taught community education courses at Gavilan College.
He had lifelong interests in botany and gardening, meteorology, astronomy, geography, the history of Gilroy and his native San Francisco.
Mr. and Mrs. Harrison recently moved to the University Retirement Community in Davis.
He was the son of the late Vera and John J. Harrison; the husband of Joan A. Harrison; the father of Lois and David Harrison; and the grandfather to Simon and Bennett.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm, Saturday, Feb. 5, 2005 at the Gilroy Presbyterian Church, 6000 Miller Ave., Gilroy.
Arrangements are under the direction of Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy.
