Gilroy High boys soccer team pounds Salinas in 9-0 victory.
SALINAS – Nine goals from five different Mustangs gave the Gilroy High boys soccer squad a lopsided 9-0 road victory over host Salinas in Tuesday’s Tri-County Athletic League contest.
After suffering a 2-1 heartbreaker to Live Oak on their home turf last week, the Mustangs bounced back on the road. Gilroy was without the services of senior captain Horacio Arteaga and deadly striker Jorge Plata – who both sat out with one-game suspensions due to red cards received in the Live Oak game.
Gilroy (4-1-1 in T-CAL) stepped up its offensive efforts led by senior striker Javier Hernandez (two goals, two assists) as well as teammates Jorge Cruz (two goals, two assists) and Evev Diaz de Leon (two goals, two assists).
Also getting in the scoring column were Luis Esqueda (one goal) and Oscar Garcia (one goal), while teammate Alfonso Montagalvan recorded three assists.
The Mustangs hope to continue their winning ways Saturday on the road against Hollister at 3:30 p.m.
