Roberto G. Valdez

Roberto G. Valdez passed away at Mabie Skilled Nursing Center Northside, September 10th at the age of 87 years after a courageous battle with lung cancer. A native of Guanajuato, Mexico, Roberto has been a resident of San Benito County for over 50 years, where he started as a seasonal agricultural employee harvesting tree and row crops; worked as a pruner and later retired as a full time electrician for Tri-Valley Cannery, where he had spent 25 years. Roberto was a member of Sacred Heart Church and the Teamsters Local No. 890 of Salinas. He was a collector of a wide selection of ceramics and artifacts, some of which may be seen in his yard. ” He liked to stay busy; he was a true fixer-upper who liked working in his yard, enjoyed watching boxing matches and the bull fights on T.V and was respected for his ability as a pool player in Hollister.” “He received the most joy, however, doing things for his family, grandchildren, and friends-always lending a helping hand”, said his children.

Surviving are his spouse Dominga Castellano Valdez of Hollister; his children Juli Valdez-Moreno (Spouse Juan) of Hollister; and Alfred Jaurique (Spouse Betty Jean) of San Jose; his grandchildren Maya Valdez, Ariana Moreno, Elizabeth Moreno, India Moreno all of Hollister, and Alexandria Jaurique of San Jose; his sister-in-law Mary Castellano of Santa Clara; his brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Bob and Mary Castellano of Hollister and Alcario and Carmen Castellano of Saratoga; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cirilo and Trinidad Castellano, and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Ismael and Lorraine Castellano.

Visitation will be held at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home, 870 San Benito St., Hollister on Sunday Sept. 16th from 1:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M., with the recitation of the rosary at 7:00 P.M. Family and friends will leave the mortuary chapel on Monday morning at 9:30 A.M. for a Mass of the Resurrection at Sacred Heart Church beginning at 10:00 A.M.
