Visiting Harbor upended Gilroy High’s girls varsity water polo team 9-4 in the team’s Monterey Bay League Pacific Division opener Thursday in Gilroy.

Brittany Salcido and Katie Clark each had two goals for the Mustangs. Harbor’s Gabby McClelland led all scorers with five goals. Her teammates Julia Fleming (2), Dusty Greer (1) and Jade Lau (1) also tallied in the win.

GHS is at Santa Cruz for a 5 p.m. contest Tuesday.

• Other water polo results from Thursday: GHS boys lost to Harbor 14-9. The Christopher girls fell to Monterey 18-3.

VOLLEYBALL

Christopher High won the second set to even its match with Mt. Madonna only to drop the next two sets and the match 25-17, 22-25, 25-19, 25-22 in the season opener Thursday night.

Cheyanne DeLaMerced led the way with nine kills for the Cougars. Emily Doughty, Hanna Tabron and Olivia Tabron each had three kills, while Alex Gerbeick posted a team-high four aces.
