Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital. He was 72.

Russ was born in Lundhurst, N.J. to Florence and Martin Patterson. After marrying Bette, he moved his family to California in 1963 to pursue a career in the insurance business. He retired 30 years later and began a second career as a salesman with Overhead Door Co. of Salinas.
Russ was a dedicated member of Gilroy Elks Lodge #1567 where he served two terms as Exalted Ruler and he enjoyed the company of many friends.
Russ is survived by his wife Elizabeth (Bette) Patterson; son Russell E. Patterson, Jr. and wife Judy of Scotts Valley; daughter Kim Gylys and husband John of Olympia, Wash.; Daughter Lynn Orlando and husband Larry of Gilroy; and daughter Kyle Patterson of Hollister.
He is also survived by five grandchildren: Brandon and Robert Orlando of Gilroy; Paul, Laura, and Alex Gylys of Olympia; brother Kenneth Patterson of Effort, Penn.; and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held on Saturday afternoon, Oct. 26 at 3 p.m. at Grunnagle Ament Nelson Funeral Home, 870 San Benito St., Hollister. The family asks that donations be made in Russ’ name to the Gilroy Elks Crippled Children’s Fund, Gilroy Elks Lodge #1567; Box 488, Gilroy, CA 95021.
