GILROY – Gilroy’s boys tennis team couldn’t get past visiting Hollister Thursday, as the Haybalers went on to take five of seven matches.

The Mustangs’ No. 1 singles player, Vinh Vong, defeated Derek Panger 6-2, 7-5, while Gilroy’s only other victory came through the No. 2 doubles match between Mustangs Zach Singh and Jared Besson, and San Benito’s Josh Greenwood and Tony Culler. Singh and Besson won the first set 6-1 but required a 7-2 tiebreaker to take the second set 7-6.

The Mustangs will be back on the courts today at 4 p.m. at Salinas.

#1 Doubles – Mitch Souza and Andrew Costa lost to Jon Rudolfs and Michael Jensen 7-5, 6-4

#3 Doubles – Alex Medina and Kevin Lee lost to Connor Bray and Eric Johnson 6-4, 6-1
