DEAR EDITOR:
From the Rubiat of Omar Khyam I quote,
”
When I was young, I did often frequent the Tent of Wisemen and
hear great argument
… but always I left by the same door which in I went.

DEAR EDITOR:
From the Rubiat of Omar Khyam I quote, “When I was young, I did often frequent the Tent of Wisemen and hear great argument … but always I left by the same door which in I went.”
With reading the letters to the editor in recent Dispatch opinion pages, I get the same feeling as quoted from the Rubiat … lots of petty blabber and banter of one writer to another but nothing to reflect upon.
I’d like bring up a pertinent seasonal subject … the birth of the Baby Jesus in Bethlehem, which Christians celebrate on the 25th of December each year.
As I read my Christmas cards, see in commercial ads, hear music on the radio all about happy holidays, seasonal greetings, hello Santa Claus, or Merry Christmas – I find little or no reference to the birth of the Christ child. Unfortunately, He has been shunted to the rear burner and the heat turned off.
The birth in Bethlehem of our Creator, via the Virgin Mary (immaculate conception) has most people confounded. How could such an event occur?
If true, it is truly a miracle? That event is the second most important happening in human history (the greatest and most important being the resurrection of Jesus after the crucifixion which Christians celebrate each Easter.)
Actually, the immaculate conception is but a minor miracle – the God of Israel being made human flesh.
For a greater miracle, think of the creation of the earth and its human inhabitants out of free, basic elements within the universe (hydrogen, helium, nitrogen, oxygen, etc.) Thus was created the planet earth.
Earth is the only heavenly body capable of sustaining life. If the creation of earth and life were a matter of chance, as the evolutionists profess, there would be thousands and thousands of earth-like planets in the heavens.
The earth and the human beings are unique; a product of intelligent design. That Designer was not just doodling; there was a purposeful plan in mind.
The plan was that mankind should live in harmony upon the earth.
Unfortunately, mankind did not live up to expectations and needed a reminder by his Creator and the natural law.
This is why the birth of the Baby Jesus carries great importance; an event to be held in awe and in deep reverence.
Santa Claus, Christmas trees, reindeer, and tinsel all have their place, but to allow such superficial trappings obscure the real meaning of the birth of the Baby Jesus is a travesty.
Let’s put the Christ Child back into Christmas.
