Brandon-Alanis

Beau Brandon and Nora Alanis will marry May 27 in San Antonio, Texas. Brandon is a 1999 graduate of San Benito High School in Hollister. He is a C-130 pilot for the United States Air Force at Little Rock, Ark. Alanis is a behavorial scientist for the United States Air Force in San Antonio. Beau’s parents, Dr. and Mrs. William Brandon, live in Hollister. Nora’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Pete Alanis, live in San Antonio.

Netzel-Ladd

Kristopher Netzel, a graduate of the Monterey Defense Language Institute with the Navy, and Meghan Ladd, an employee of Klang and Associates in Interior Design, will marry. Meghan’s parents, Alan and Kathy, live in Gilroy. Kristopher’s parents, Joseph Netzel and Kerry Haggerty, live in Fontana, Calif. Kristopher and Meghan met as freshman at San Diego State University. No date for the wedding has been set.

Ramirez-Santos

Joseph Ramirez of Sacramento and Tracy Santos of Gilroy will marry July 8. Joseph is an electronic engineer with New Star Lasers, and Tracy is a special education sixth-grade teacher. They both attended the University of California, Sacramento. They plan to honeymoon in Mexico.

HONORS

Alex Engelhardt

Alex Engelhardt, a seventh-grader at Rancho San Justo Middle School in Hollister, has been accepted into the People to People World Leadership Forum. Alex will join a select group of students from Sept. 11 to 17 in Washington D.C. to earn high school credit while studying leadership and exploring some of the United States? most prominent institutions and monuments.

Alex was nominated and accepted for the honor based on scholastic merit, civic involvement and leadership potential.

Jasmine Reynozo

Jasmine Reynozo, 12, will travel to Washington D.C. for a week-long leadership forum presented by People to People. During her stay, Jasmine, a seventh-grader at South Valley Middle School, will visit famous monuments, museums, meet politicians and see and other sights. Jasmine was born in San Jose and raised in Gilroy.

MILITARY

Joseph Robert Best

Joseph Robert Best was commissioned into the United States Marine Corps as a Second Lieutenant on Dec. 15. The formal ceremony took place at the Santa Clara Veterans Memorial.

Best is a 2001 graduate of Live Oak High School in Morgan Hill. He attended San Jose State University. He graduated from the United States Marine Corps? Officer Candidates School in August in Quantico, Va. Best graduated from SJSU with a degree in criminal justice. He will report for duty for more training in Quantico in June before entering the fleet.

Ernie Olivares

Ernie Olivares, a longtime Gilroy resident, recently joined Washington Mutual as a loan consultant. His background includes finance, real estate, and title and escrow. Most recently, Olivares served as assistant vice president for Chicago Title, a real estate services company, working more than 11 years in the title industry.

Olivares also was involved in the development of El Portal Leadership Academy, a charter high school in Gilroy. At Washington Mutual, he is involved in developing resources for Rebuilding Together Silicon Valley, a nonprofit organization supporting lower-income families, handicapped people and senior citizens in rehabilitating their homes.

He and his wife, Lucy, reside in Gilroy and have two grown daughters.
