Steven Robles, Luis Vasquez, McKay Livingston

In May, Gilroy Boy Scout Troop No. 708 will be hosting an Eagle Scout Court of Honor for Steven Robles, Luis Vasquez and McKay Livingston. This is a significant benchmark in the progress of these young men becoming active citizens. A considerable amount of time and effort goes into the achievement of such a distinguished award.

Steven’s Eagle Scout project was to create a circle driveway as a way of redirecting the traffic flow at Gavilan Hills Academy. The redirection provided safe passage for the children, made for more efficient parking and improved the school’s appearance.

Luis’ Eagle Scout project was to mark the Uvas Creek Bike Trail. He, with the help of his fellow scouts, friends and family, measured, computed and marked with stencil and paint the quarter, half and mile markers. In miles and kilometers, Luis led his crew with enthusiasm and efficiency at the request of the City of Gilroy Park and Recreation Department.

McKay’s Eagle Scout project was to plan and carry out a United States flag retirement ceremony on the anniversary of Sept. 11. This was a large community event that required tremendous planning with the city of Gilroy, Chamber of Commerce, the Department of Parks and Recreation, Gilroy Fire Depot and the Gilroy Police Department.
