HONORS: Herman Enríquez: Herman Jesus Enríquez, a 2012 graduate of Christopher High School, graduated from the Marines in February 2013 and will be home from Afganistán after six months of serving his country. He is the son of Rosa and Jesus Martinez of Gilroy.
Students named to dean’s list
The following local residents were among 745 students who made the dean’s list at California Lutheran University for the spring semester.
• Erin Chisolm of Gilroy is a communication major.
• Michael Kelly-Bocksnick of Morgan Hill is a biological science major.
California Lutheran University is a selective university based in Thousand Oaks.
Jesus Marin
Jesus Marin, soon to be a senior at Christopher High School, is one of 40 students from more than 500 applicants nationwide to be accepted into the 25th annual Summer Engineering Seminar at Santa Clara University. Applicants submitted transcripts, an essay and a letter of recommendation. The free program, sponsored by Silicon Valley engineering companies, is for incoming high school seniors interested in a career in engineering.
Jesus, 17, plays water polo at Christopher and attended Luigi Aprea Elementary School and Solorsano Middle School. He hopes to study engineering at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and wants to devote part of his career to designing and building inexpensive housing options for homeless people.

Julie Whelan, of Gilroy, recently received her bachelor’s degree in educational studies from Western Governors University.
