Alison Wan and Javier Perez are engaged to be married.

Alison, daughter of Larry and Kathy Wan of Morgan Hill, is a 2005 graduate of Presentation High School and received a bachelor’s degree in exercise science-integrative physiology in 2009 from Pacific University. She is currently a student at Arcadia University in Philadelphia and will graduate with a masters in medical science in 2011.

Javier, son of Francisco and Maria Perez of Beaverton, Ore., is a 2005 graduate of Sunset High School and received a bachelor’s degree in film and video production in 2009 from Pacific University. He is currently working as an independent video and music producer.

The couple met at Pacific University. Javier proposed after an acoustic performance of “In My Life” at Virginia Beach. They plan an Aug. 13, 2011 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Salem, Ore. After the wedding the couple will reside in Portland.

Ezequiel Joseph Esquer

Ezequiel Joseph Esquer was born Aug. 18, 2010 at St Joseph’s in Stockton to LCpl. Angel and Amber Grimaldo Esquer of Camp Lejeune, N.C. He weighed 6 pounds, 14 ounces.

Stephanie Nicole Ortiz

Stephanie Nicole Ortiz was born Sept. 6, 2010 at Hazel Hawkins Hospital to Michelle and Juvenal Ortiz of Hollister. She weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces.

HONORS

Blake Stephens

PV2 Blake Stephens graduated from the United States Army Basic Combat Training at Fort Knox, Ky. While there, he received the duties of platoon guide, squad leader and team leader. He also qualified expert in basic rifle marksmanship.

Stephens went on to Advanced Individual Training at Fort Bragg, N.C. He is currently assigned to the 345th Psychological Operations Company Airborne.

Stephens is the son of Michael and Lynn Stephens, of Hollister. He is the grandson of Doug and Ruth Stephens and Gary and Kathy Robinson and a 2009 graduate of San Benito High School.

John Sosa

Army Reserve Sgt. John P. Sosa is in the process of returning home with the 372nd Engineer Brigade based at Fort Snelling, Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minn., after serving a one-year deployment in Afghanistan.

The soldiers were responsible for combat effects-route clearance missions, and construction of roads and buildings for all forward operating bases and combat outposts in both eastern and northern Afghanistan.

The brigade engineers were involved with master planning, design, project management and extensive construction of more than 30 bases and outposts. They also conducted workshops for local nationals to help them rebuild their communities and provide employment using their newly-acquired skills.

Sosa, a terrain data engineer, has served in the military for more than eight years.

His wife, Jennifer, is the daughter of Arnolfo Lorenzana of Gilroy.
