Commander Neil R. McCown graduated Dec. 16, 2010 from the Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island, in the College of Naval Warfare.
The College of Naval Warfare is a multidisciplinary program designed for U.S. Naval and Coast Guard officers in the grades of captain or commander; U.S. Marine Corps, Army and Air Force officers in the grade of colonel or lieutenant colonel; and civilians of equivalent seniority from various federal agencies. This senior level professional military education program provides students with executive-level preparation for higher responsibilities as senior captains/colonels and flag/general officers. Military students are selected to attend the College of Naval Warfare by their respective services.
Founded in 1884 at Newport, the Naval War College is the oldest war college in the nation and the oldest institution of its kind in continual existence in the world.
Morgan Celaya
DePaul University student Morgan Celaya of Morgan Hill has been named to the Dean’s List for the 2010 fall quarter. To receive Dean’s List commendation, full-time students must earn a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or above on a four-point scale.
Kyle Rhodas
Air Force Airman Kyle W. Rhodas graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
He is the son of Michael Rhodas of Hollister and a 2009 from San Benito High School.
John Hunter
Air Force Airman 1st Class John M. Hunter graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.

Erik Siverson
On Jan. 12, local piano tuner, Erik Siverson, of Gilroy, celebrated his 60th birthday. He also celebrated his retirement form San Jose State University’s school of music and dance after 35 years of service. In his retirement, Erik plans to continue tuning pianos locally and volunteering at San Jose State.
