Travis Moen and Kent Huskins were added to the San Jose Sharks
roster Tuesday in a trade deadline transaction with the Pacific
Division-rival Anaheim Ducks.
Both Moen and Huskins played for the Ducks in 2006-7, concluding
the season by holding up the Stanley Cup. Moen scored the winning
goal in the clincher against the Ottawa Senators.
SAN JOSE – Travis Moen and Kent Huskins were added to the San Jose Sharks roster Tuesday in a trade deadline transaction with the Pacific Division-rival Anaheim Ducks.
Both Moen and Huskins played for the Ducks in 2006-7, concluding the season by holding up the Stanley Cup. Moen scored the winning goal in the clincher against the Ottawa Senators.
Sharks Executive Vice President Doug Wilson announced the trade, which sent prospects Nick Bonino and Timo Pielmeier to Anaheim along with a conditional draft choice.
Bonino, a sixth-round selection by San Jose in the 2007 draft, was named the MVP of the Beanpot Tournament playing for champion Boston University last month. Pielmeier was one among a strong group of young goaltenders in the Sharks organization.
“Travis (Moen) will be a very valuable asset to us,” said Wilson.
“He’s a physical player, he can skate, kills penalties. Travis was part of one of the best third lines in the NHL.”
Moen, 26, has played in 343 games after being selected in the fifth round of the 2000 Entry Draft by the Calgary Flames. The 6-foot-2, 216-pounder has 26 goals in regular season action. Moen struck for seven goals in 21 Playoff games in the run to the 2006-7 Cup.
Wilson called Huskins “a multi-faceted defenseman. He can play in any situation, he’s a puck-mover and also has that physical element.”
Huskins, a 6-3, 217-pounder, was a Hobey Baker Award finalist at Clarkson University. The 29-year-old, a sixth-round pick of Chicago in 1998, scored six goals in 142 NHL games.
Both new Sharks will be available this weekend when the Sharks play in Vancouver Saturday night against the Canucks.
