A private memorial ceremony will be held in Miami Heights near the farmhouse where Shirley and Melberne raised their children. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Friends of San Martin Animal Shelter (http://fosmas.org/donate.html). Please remember to note the donation as ‘Shirley Paulus Memorial’ on check or PayPal payment. Donations will be used towards building an outside cat enclosure that the shelter has needed for some time. It would allow the shelter cats to get some fresh air, but be protected!
 Shirley Paulus passed away on March 10, 2015, after a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Heaven greeted Shirley after 88 years of sharing her compassion, love, wit, and laughter to all who knew her.
 Shirley was born in Cincinnati, OH to Clarence and Albina Wilmoth.
 She graduated from Hughes High School where she met her one and only sweetheart, Melberne Paulus, whom she later married on her 20th birthday.
 They are reunited in everlasting love and are survived by their two children, Cheryl Ann (Paulus) Ziegler of Houston and Timothy Edward Paulus of San Martin; grandchildren, Jay Ziegler and Melissa (Ziegler) Furrer of Houston, Ashley Paulus of Morgan Hill and Alyssa Paulus of San Francisco; and great-grandson, Jacob Furrer IV.
 Shirley was an active and dedicated volunteer at the San Martin Animal Shelter where she loved and cared for pets in need. Her generous and compassionate spirit will be missed by all creatures, great and small.
