Someone fired a shot at an unknown victim inside a car on the 8100 block of Westwood Drive at 7:06 p.m. on Aug. 25.Â
The suspect, or suspects are outstanding, but according to witness reports, the shot was fired from an older model Plymouth minivan.
The same minivan was later stopped, and the driver, Oscar Uriel Guerra, was arrested for drug and weapons charges violations unrelated to the shooting, according to Police Sgt. Chad Gallacinao. Guerra was not arrested for any charges related to the shooting, but police believe he was in the minivan when the shooting occurred. The extent of his involvement is not yet known to police, Gallacinao said.Â
“Forensic investigations need to be conducted, to determine his involvement, and anyone else’s involvement,” Gallacinao said.Â
Police say they found Guerra with a concealed dagger on his body and 1.5 grams of marijuana. He was taken to Santa Clara County Jail.Â
The shooting appears to be gang related, Gallacinao said. The gun used has not been located but police have collected other evidence from the scene, the press release said.Â
The victim, or victims, are unknown to police because they fled the scene prior to police arrival and have not come forward since. The victim’s car, according to witness reports, is a dark colored Chrysler 300.Â
So far, only two witnesses relating to the shooting have come forward. Police encourage anyone with information to contact Gilroy Police Department at (408) 846 – 0350. Callers wishing to remain anonymous may call WeTip at 1-800-782-7463 / (1-800-78-Crime).
