She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Corral. She is survived by her children and their spouses David and Lucy Mendez of Los Banos and Betty and Leo Cortez of Los Banos; her grandchildren David Mendez Jr. of Los Banos, Michael Mendez, of Gilroy, Paul Mendez of Los Banos, Gina Flores of Los Banos, Leo Cortez Jr. of Los Banos, Sofia Cortez of Los Banos and Emilio Cortez of Los Banos. Sofia is the sister of Cruz Martinez of Gilroy, Henry Martinez of Gilroy, Clarence Martinez of Gilroy, Walter Martinez of Gilroy, Jesse Martinez of San Jose, David Martinez of Arizona, Caroline Flores of Bakersfield and Lucy Martinez of San Jose. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and the father of her children, Paul Mendez of Gilroy. Mrs. Corral was preceded in death by her son, Paul Mendez Jr., her parents, Martin and Rosa Martinez; her sisters, Jennie Villa, Virginia Crist and her brother, Martin Martinez Jr.
She was born in El Monte on Sept. 30, 1936, and moved to Gilroy with her parents as a child. She attended Gilroy Schools and worked for 35 years at Gilroy Foods, Inc. She enjoyed sewing and cooking. Sofia was a volunteer at St. Louise Regional Hospital sewing baby clothes and as a receptionist.
Vigil Service will be held on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Habing Family Funeral Home, Gilroy. Services will begin on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home and then proceed to St. Marys Church for a Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at St. Marys Cemetery, Gilroy.
