Renegades 10-1 in the championship game to earn a spot at the 2011
NSA World Series.
The Gilroy Chaos 16U travel softball team went 3-2 at a tournament in Fremont two weekends ago, defeating the Real Renegades 10-1 in the championship game to earn a spot at the 2011 NSA World Series.
“In that championship game we came out firing,” manager Ray Covarrubias said. “We jumped on them early.”
The Chaos scored six runs in the first, three more in the second and tacked on one in the third for good measure.
Olivia Barajas charted two-RBI, with a triple and a double and Angelica Carrillo knocked in three runs with a triple and a double of her own. Jenae Estrada went 2-for-3 with two-RBI and Kayla Medrano contributed two singles and an RBI.
Raeanna Covarrubias picked up the win in the circle, striking out five batters in four innings of work. Nicole Lara provided the defensive support, fielding eight straight grounders for outs.
The Chaos defeated the Renegades 11-5 in the first game of the two-day tournament. Estrada belted a home run, Mariah Martinez went 3-for-3, Kayla Medrano also went 3-for-3 with a home run, Lara posted two-RBI, Carrillo 2-for-2 both doubles and Olivia Barajas 2-for-2 with two RBI to complete the laundry list of stats for Game 1.
The Chaos then ran into a bit of trouble in their next two games, losing 6-2 and 9-8, respectively.
However, with a No. 2-seed heading into Sunday’s championship rounds, the Chaos struck back and beat the California Bandits 4-1 to advance to the championship game.
Giovanna Martin went 2-for-2 with a double and single and Carrillo had a triple in the defensive struggle.
“We had great hitting, pitching and defense all week,” Covarrubias said.
