Nonprofit organization South County Collaborative has appointed Elena Ruiz-Thomas as its CEO/strategic director, a position funded by the Gilroy Foundation, according to a press release.
Ruiz-Thomas currently is a member of San Jose Mayor Chuck Reed’s Gang Prevention Task Force and the Franklin McKinley Children’s Initiative. She was once the director of La Familia Neighborhood Resource Center in Hayward, where she administered start-up programs and emphasized community participation.
The South County Collaborative is a tax-exempt association comprised of 70 community-based organizations, schools, hospitals, clinics and public agencies that serve Southern Santa Clara County’s disadvantaged populations, according to the release.
The organization works to improve services and make them more accessible, the release stated.
According to the release, Ruiz-Thomas was finance and administration director for Family Support California in Oakland, where she managed legal compliance, finances, and internal business practices. At Redwood City Healthy Start Network, she supervised staff, interns and volunteers, and managed daily operations. She also managed the Families and Schools Together National Program model at the Franklin McKinley School District.
