elections.

We are pleased to announce the South County Democratic Club held an endorsement vote on Aug. 23 on the upcoming Gilroy elections. The Club has endorsed Guadalupe Arellano as the best candidate for mayor of Gilroy. The Club has also endorsed Peter Arellano, Paul Correa and Bruce Morasca for City Council of Gilroy. Our members have met with all of candidates that sought our endorsement. We determined the above candidates would best represent Democratic Party principles if elected.
While the offices of mayor and councilmember in Gilroy are non-partisan offices, we felt that it was important for our Club to voice an opinion. Democratic Club bylaws limit all endorsements to candidates that are registered with the Democratic Party.
The South County Democratic Club also voted to oppose the recall of Gov. Gray Davis. Club members felt that it was not in the best interest of the State of California for him to be removed from office. We have not taken a position on a candidate to replace Gov. Davis, should the recall be successful. We could take a position during our next meeting on Sept. 20.
We are also very pleased to report that the Santa Clara County Democratic Central Committee has also made endorsements in the Gilroy election. In a meeting on Sept. 4, chaired by Central Committee President Steve Preminger, they endorsed Arellano for mayor. In the City Council race Peter Arellano, Paul Correa and Bruce Morasca were similarly endorsed.
The South County Democratic Club holds regular meetings in Gilroy and Morgan Hill. Membership approaches 80 Democratic Party loyalists, who discuss and take positions on candidates, issues and government policies.
