The Bay Area Air Quality Management District has announced today is a Spare the Air Day, which would ban wood burning indoors and out.
During this Winter Spare the Air Alert, it is illegal for Bay Area residents and businesses to use fireplaces, wood stoves and inserts, pellet stoves, outdoor fire pits, or any other wood-burning devices.
Air quality in the Bay Area is not at its best, according to a press release today. Wood smoke is considered a major source of air pollution during the winter.
Anyone who does not adhere to the rules of Spare the Air Days will receive a warning the first time and fines from several hundred dollars to several thousand dollars after that.
