MONTEREY – Both the boys and girls Gilroy High varsity cross country teams maintained their perfect runs through Tri County Athletic League competition defeating North Salinas and Alvarez in a tri-meet at Navidad Creek Park in Monterey on Monday.
Sophomore Athena Alarcon posted her fifth first-place showing of the season with a 3-mile time of 19:38 to pace the girls who finished one-two-three Monday. Sophomore Maritza Ruelas and senior Paty Hernandez each crossed at 20:24. Brandie Rodriguez finished with a solid 21:03 to take fifth for the Mustangs.
Not be be outdone, the boys nabbed the top-three spots in their race led by Timothy Williams’ 3-mile time of 16:48. Senior Juan Velasquez was right on Williams’ heels with his 16:49. Kyle Collett secured third with a 17:39 finish.
Both teams are now 4-0 with one final league meet and an invitational remaining on the schedule before the TCAL tournament begins. The Mustangs face Salinas, which has a boys team that is also undefeated, and Alisal next Monday at Christmas Hill Park.
