Led by Live Oak grad, and Division II college player, C.J. Goularte, the Garlic City Bandits 13-and-under Trave Baseball Club will be holding open tryouts from 9 a.m. to noon on Aug. 1 at Community Park in Morgan Hill. Bring a copy of the prospective player’s birth certificate and baseball gear. Call Pat Goularte at (408) 683-0489 for additional information before attending the tryout. The AAA-rated club plays year-round baseball and recently finished second in the state after winning a Fourth of July tournament in Lake Tahoe. C.J. Goularte will help coach the team until he returns to Abilene University in Texas in the fall.

Gavilan summer hoops camp

Kids grades 3-8 are invited to attend the Gavilan College Men’s Basketball Summer Camp Aug. 9-13 at Gavilan, 5055 Santa Teresa Blvd. in Gilroy. Hosted by the Gavilan Rams players and coaching staff, including Head Coach Chris Shoemaker, the camp is designed to provide quality basketball instruction, including basic skills in a fun atmosphere. Instruction will focus on offensive and defensive fundamentals, shooting, rebounding, ball handling, passing, dribbling, stretching and conditioning. Each camper will have an opportunity to use their skills in game competition. Sessions for grades 3-5 will be held 9 a.m. to noon, with sessions for grades 6-8 from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Fee is $65.
