St. Mary School in Gilroy proudly joins Catholic schools across the nation in observing Catholic Schools Week, held January 26 through January 31, 2014. Catholic Schools Week is the annual celebration of Catholic education in the United States. During the week, we focus on the value Catholic education provides to young people and its contributions to our church, our communities and our nation.
Since 1974, the National Catholic Education Association has annually sponsored jointly with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops a week set aside to make the public aware of the importance of Catholic education in the United States.
This year’s theme, “Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service,” expresses our school’s focus on academic excellence, high moral standards and faith development. We’ve planned a variety of events that demonstrate how we’re doing it.
Here is St. Mary School’s schedule for the week:
Sunday, January 26—“Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service”: In Our Parish. Join us for a 5 p.m. Mass at St. Mary Church. Students in uniform sit with their parents.
Monday, January 27—“Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service”: In Our Community. Our Student Council officers are attending a liturgy at the Cathedral. Students write thank you letters and draw pictures for community organizations to be delivered on Tuesday.
Tuesday, January 28—“Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service”: In Our Nation. The VFW Color Guard will be at our AM assembly in the gym. Our General Open House is 9 a.m. to noon. Students deliver letters/pictures to community organizations.
Wednesday, January 29—“Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service”: In Our Faculty, Staff, Parents and Volunteers. Faculty, staff and parents will enjoy coffee, tea and treats at AM drop-off. Families are attending Family Art Night in the gym at 6 p.m.
Thursday, January 30—“Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service”: In Our Students. Spirit Day/Rally at 10:45 a.m. in the gym.
Friday, January 31—“Communities of Faith, Knowledge and Service”: In Our Vocations. Grandparents’ Day at 8:45 a.m. in the church. Noon dismissal.
