Students and faculty of St. Mary School in Gilroy raised more than $55,000 and walked more than 1,200 miles at the school’s second annual Walk-a-Thon on Sept. 17.
All students, from kindergarten through eighth grade, participated and wore running bibs provided by Saint Louise Hospital. SMS Principal Christa Hanson and Father Tad walked and obtained pledges. Many parents and teachers also participated and cheered on the students as they circled two tracks on the school field. Frances Cullen Howson, St. Mary School’s oldest living alum, walked a lap with kindergartners and obtained pledges. Students received prizes including Specialized water bottles and a Game Truck party. The money raised will go to the school’s General Fund as well as to needed improvements for school facilities and classrooms. The St. Mary School Walk-a-Thon committee would like to thank Walk-a-Thon chair Vicki Goicovich, students, parents, staff and the Gilroy community for supporting St. Mary School’s Walk-a-Thon.
