Kaelin Sylva, a 17-year-old senior at CHS, is this week’s “student of the week.”
What inspires you?
I think what inspires me the most is when people are happy and when I see others showing random acts of kindness. I think when people are happy and enjoy what they feel they want to share that feeling, thus result in them being nice to others in turn leads to an ongoing cycle of happiness.
Your favorite subject in school:
I can honestly say I really do not have one because I like the fact that there are different aspects that are focused on in each subject. For example, history teaches students about the past and what is currently going on and its affect on us. However in ceramics you can just let loose with your creative side and make in a sense whatever you want where it is a small little pig to a hamburger you can let your imagination soar. Also, leadership, it is one of the more stressful classes but in the end I think it’s all worth it because you get to see happy people and even though not everyone will be happy there is always a small portion of the population that will love it, so this class teaches you have to deal with real life situations. All in all, I cannot choose one single subject that is my favorite.
If you had the power to change one thing in the world, what would it be?
If I had the power to change one thing it would be to have make people less greedy.
If I could go anywhere, where would you go?
Right now, I would want to go to New Zealand, but it would most likely change within the next couple of months because of how cold it gets.
Name one big challenge in your life right now:
One major challenge in my life right now is planning my future. I’m deathly afraid of how the choices I make now will affect me in the future and how will I pay for all the expenses.
What is my dream job?
My dream job is to be an architect so that I can design eco-friendly and dependable houses for people no matter who they are because everyone deserves a place to stay and call “home”.
What are your three favorite things?
(1) Listening to music, (2) helping people, and (2) snuggling up on a cold rainy day, drink a hot cup of hot chocolate or tea, and watch Disney movies or any movie that is on.
Favorite book:
“The Book Thief” by Mark Zusak.
Plans post-high school:
I want to go to Berkeley, my dream school, or whatever college I land at and hopefully get into a study abroad program to go to Japan, a country on the Pacific Rim, or a European country (I cannot really decide which one because there are so many different countries to choose from!)
Something that makes you smile:
One thing that makes me smile is when other people are smiling and laughing because it usually means that they are having fun and enjoying themselves.
Top three most played songs on my iPod/iTunes:
“Royals” by Lorde, “Radioactive” by Imagine Dragons, “Chasing Pavements” by Adele.
