Gilroy – When Gilroy police arrested 18-year-old Elliot Rodriguez, they halted a $20,000 shopping spree, taken at his boss’ expense.

Rodriguez, a Target employee, allegedly embezzled merchandise for roughly six months before being reported and arrested at the Gilroy store, located at 6705 Camino Arroyo, at 7pm Friday.

Target advertises discount prices, but police say Rodriguez took it a step further by scanning in merchandise at cut-rate prices – sometimes not paying at all. He faces charges of embezzlement and conspiracy to commit a crime.

A friend, Arturo Castaneda, 19, assisted him by bringing items to the register, and was arrested on suspicion of burglary and conspiracy to commit a crime.
