A driver swing is the only swing in the game that you want to strike the ball as the club is on the upswing part of the arc and not on the downward part.

In order to help accomplish this you want to make sure the ball is teed up high enough so the clubhead reaches its lowest part of the arc several inches before the ball. Thus the club can start on the way up after that and sweep the ball off the tee.

If you tee the ball down too low when you reach the bottom of the swing your club will hit the ground and drop kick the club into the ball. This will cause the clubhead speed to slow down considerably and also often close the club causing a hook.

You should always approach the tee shot with the idea in your mind that you will sweep the ball off the tee and never make any contact with the ground. A good tee shot swing is one when you make only slight contact with the tee and never the ground.

Often times people will even tee the ball down lower to hit the ball lower. However, this often causes you to swing on a descending arc and actually pops the ball up. So to let it fly make sure you tee it high.
