A player can swing with a couple different swings and still be succesful as long as you keep the same tempo during these swings. Tempo is really the key to being fluid and all the parts falling into place.

First of all, make sure that you have a quiet period at the top of your backswing. This quiet period may be for only a fraction of a second, but it gives your swing a chance to change directions at the top. You can’t start your downswing before you finish your backswing.

Your backswing is a time to coil and gather momentum. If your backswing is too fast you tend to jerk the club back and not give your body a chance to fall into place properly. Too fast a backswing will also give you a tendency to fall off balance.

On the downswing, your hips and arms must work together – leading your left hip towards the target as your arms come into the hitting area. If one segment goes without the other, then your tempo will be off. You will be hitting the ball with all legs and no arms or visa versa.

If you feel that all your body is working together instead of against each other your distance and consistency will improve.

Remember when all else fails take a lesson. You’ll be surprised how much we can help.
