Construction crews will work on north part of thoroughfare
Morgan Hill – As soon as the rain stops, work will begin on a project to improve traffic flow on Tennant Avenue.
“It could be next week. It could be next month,” said Jim Ashcraft, public works director for Morgan Hill.
Construction crews are standing by to widen the north side of Tennant from just west of Vineyard Avenue to just east of Monterey Road and perform minor modifications to the intersection of Tennant Avenue and Church Street.
When the work is complete, that entire stretch of Tennant will have a total of five lanes, including a middle turning lane, that should alleviate congestion in front of the Tennant Station Shopping Center.
“This is one of the last bottlenecks that remain in town,” Morgan Hill City Manager Ed Tewes said. “With development along Tennant, its need is becoming increasingly evident, as there is more traffic that needs to be carried on a limited roadway.”
The cost of the project is $722,000. Ashcraft said the road work should be finished by August, but could be delayed if the weather continues to be lousy. Rain is in the forecast off and on through the middle of next week.
