Though the Cougars fell short 4-3, the three team points are the
most the Cougars have posted this season.
Head coach Patrick McBrearty has watched his Christopher High boys tennis team struggle this season. But through the tribulations he has also seen the youthful squad take those difficult losses and turn them into stepping stones toward better outcomes.
“They learn something every day,” McBrearty said. “I as them what they have learned and what they think they need to work on. They come to practice and get to work.”

“They have held it together really well,” McBrearty said. “They are doing a great job.”
No. 1 singles player Vesna Kahay defeated Joel Munoz in straight sets, 7-5, 6-4 to give the Cougars their lone win in singles play.
The Cougars tied the match at 3-3 after two tiebreaker victories at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles.
Nate Norman and Matthew Lombardo shook off a first-set defeat and outlasted Jay Selin and Brett Seggerman in the No. 1 contest, 5-7, 6-2 1-0 (10-8.) Jerry Kuang and Austin Sepulneda took an early one-set lead over Diego Garcia and Anthony Fernandez before the Eagles’ pair evened the match to send the back-and-forth affair into the tiebreaker. Kuang and Sepulneda held off the charge to secure the triumph, 7-6, 5-7, 1-0 (10-6).
“(The doubles) communicate really well with each other,” McBrearty said. “They talk during the match about what is and what isn’t working. That’s really helped them.”
